New Places to Play in Courtenay! New playgrounds were installed at Maple Park and Hobson Park in the summer and early fall. Both playgrounds have equipment that is best suited to children 2 - 5 years old and are a great addition to the City’s inventory.

Glen Urquhart Creek Rehabilitation A rehabilitation project has been completed in the heart of a residential neighbourhood in east Courtenay. Glen Urquhart Creek is an approximately 6-kilometre long stream with tributaries flowing through and around the Valley View neighbourhood, draining from this urban environment into agricultural lands before reaching the K’omoks Estuary. The rehabilitation work focused on the section of the creek upstream of Thorpe Avenue and behind Finch Place with the goal of improving fish habitat and enhancing the riparian area. The placement of instream and shoreline structures, along with creation of rock riffles in the creek channel will help contribute to stabilizing the creek bank and footpath, increasing water quality and improving instream aquatic insect complexity. Courtenay Recreation coordinates the use of all parks and school playing fields located in the City of Courtenay. Field Closures: Fields may be closed due to weather conditions. We would appreciate your cooperation in not using the fields during these times. Courtenay Recreation also books the Artificial Turf Field located at GP Vanier.
