COMOX VALLEY REGIONAL DISTRICT (CVRD) The City of Courtenay is one of three member municipalities of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), along with the Town of Comox and Village of Cumberland. The CVRD also includes three electoral areas, A, B, and C. K’ómoks First Nation Protocol Agreement The CVRD, Courtenay, Comox, and

Cumberland signed a historic protocol agreement with K’ómoks First Nation in 2010, which outlines a shared understanding of key interests, including culture and heritage protection, environmental protection, intergovernmental coordination, joint economic development, land-use planning and management, property taxation issues, shared/reciprocal services, governance relations, emergency preparedness, consultation and accommodation, and any other key interests as agreed to by the parties.

Regional Airshed Steering Committee A Regional Airshed Steering Committee established by the Comox Valley Regional District in 2020 completed a report in 2021 summarizing the first year of the committee. The committee's vision is "The Comox Valley has clean air supporting the health of all residents". The City of Courtenay is an active participant on the airshed steering committee along with representatives from other local governments, the health sector and Vancouver Island University. The Airshed Protection Strategy will be available for public review in 2022.

CVRD services in Courtenay The CVRD provides services to Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland and Areas A, B, C. The amount of services received depends on the needs of each municipality and area. The City of Courtenay participates in many important services from the CVRD including:

• Regional Sewer System • Regional Water Service • Comox Valley Emergency Program (Search & Rescue, 911) • Comox Valley Justice Service (Victim Services) • Recreation (facilities, recreation grants) • Homelessness Support Service • Regional Growth Strategy
