South Courtenay Riverway Trail Extension

Photos: Trail under Construction

COURTENAY PARKS Phase 1 of the Courtenay Riverway Trail Expansion is close to completion and scheduled to be ready by mid November 2020. This phase is between Millard and Beachwood Road in South Courtenay and connects to the existing City trail. The goal with Phases 2 and 3 of the project is to eventually connect to the Royston Seaside Trail. The trail consists of a 3.0 metre wide crushed aggregate multi-use pathway, consistent with the existing trail network in south Courtenay. This phase is on the site of a railway corridor owned by the City and is unique in that the majority of this section is bordered by private property on either side, including along the waterfront. Once construction is complete, trail users will be asked to respect private property and not trespass on these private lands. The corridor boundary will be clearly marked by a low rail and signage. The nearest beach access will remain at Millard Road. For project updates including when Phase 1 of the trail will open visit: courtenay.ca/riverwayextension
